This disturbs me on many levels, though I do see the sense in the concept. I really worry about the disassociation we have as a species from our food source already. Kids think that food comes from a grocery store, not the land, plants and animals around us. This technology may allow for environmentally responsible and cruelty free food production, but what is the price in the big picture? The sustainability movement is about the "interconnectedness" of all life on the planet, and how we respectfully relate to each other. When food becomes a process of technology, we lose a huge element of that connection. Its just another example of humans thinking of only humans' needs.
